Shared Commitment

SDREC affiliates participate in a unique regional alliance defined by a shared commitment to research ethics. While affiliation does not constitute endorsement of an organization's practices, it is one means to demonstrate an institutional commitment to the highest standards of integrity in research.

Services

Education Programs at institution: SDREC faculty will work with institutional affiliates to deliver existing or custom courses, seminars, and workshops.

Education Programs at UCSD: Researchers from SDREC affiliates can attend SDREC sponsored research ethics or stem cell ethics seminars, workshops, and courses at UCSD on a space-available basis at an hourly cost per individual. Fee includes tracking of attendance and certification of completion of programs.

Research Ethics: SDREC faculty will assist with assessment, advice, education, and/or review.

Workshops: SDREC faculty may organize research ethics workshops particularly for researchers from SDREC affiliate institutions.

Peer Engagement: The SDREC provides pro-active leadership in addressing ever-changing regional and national ethical, legal, and social issues in the conduct of research, including stem cell studies. SDREC affiliates become part of a regional network of research administrators who explore common challenges and exchange “best practices.”

Ombuds role: SDREC faculty provide neutral, third party, confidential, non-binding assistance for researchers (particularly junior researchers) who are grappling with concerns or questions regarding ethical practices.
