Current guidelines can be found at: RCR Requirement Update (2009).
NOTE: In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the NIH has issued new guidance regarding substituting online training for the normally recommended in person training. UC San Diego faculty have developed and implemented an online version of the Scientific Ethics course that is consistent with the spirit of the 2009 guidelines and the letter of the new NIH guidance.
Although the requirements vary, the spirit of those requirements is best met by diverse approaches that reflect ethical reflection as a part of, rather than separate from, the practice of research. Syllabi for the most recently taught version of each of these courses can be found on the web pages for each course:
UC San Diego hosts an internationally recognized website, Resources for Research Ethics Education, which provides guidance to instructors of research ethics both in the classroom and in the context of research. In addition, the Research Ethics Program and San Diego Research Ethics Consortium convene periodic workshops to train faculty in the teaching of research ethics. Find out more.
