Purpose
The purpose of this Web site is to provide a framework for the format, content, and resources appropriate to a series of clinical research workshops. The workshops are intended to cover both practical and ethical aspects of various components of clinical research activities.

How to use this Web site
In addition to this Page, this Web site is divided into the following units: Schedule, Evaluation, Human Subjects, Grants and Contracts, Technology Transfer, and Publications. Objectives for each of these units are summarized below:
Schedule: Latest information on scheduled workshops at UC San Diego and UC San Francisco.
Evaluation: Proposed methods for evaluating workshop effectiveness; results and interpretation of previous evaluations.

WORKSHOPS
Each of the following workshop sections includes, or will include, recommended resources and suggested workshop outlines.
Human Subjects: Workshop on the use of human subjects in clinical research.
Grants and Contracts: Workshop on sources and methods for obtaining research funding.
Technology Transfer: Workshop on rights, regulations, and responsibilities with respect to technology transfer.
Publications: Workshop on the writing of publishable papers.

Web site Authors
This Web site and program are based on a collaboration between two campuses of the University of California. The Project Director is Michael Kalichman, Ph.D. of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Dr. Kalichman is Director of the Research Ethics Program at UCSD and has an ongoing interest in the effectiveness of teaching research ethics. The Project Co-Director is Susan Eastwood, ELS(D), of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Ms. Eastwood is Director for Publications & Grant Writing in the UCSF Department of Neurological Surgery and also has a long-standing interest in assessing and improving the quality of training in the responsible conduct of research.
