Topic: Man-made health disasters: The example of Iraq and our ethical responsibilities

Abstract:
Iraq as a nation has undergone major tribulations for the last 28 years.
An estimated 1.5-2 million Iraqis have suffered premature death during this
period. This presentation looks at Iraq's recent history from a public
health point of view, examining internal and external contributions to arguably one of the world's worst man-made health disasters. Discussion will focus on the what is and can be done by the international medical and public health communities and what are ethical responsibilities are as public health and medical advocates.

The Speaker will draw on some of his personal experiences as well as the literature documenting the consequences of these events.
