Topic: Human Embryonic Stem Cells: Who Owns Them?
Presenter: Jeanne Loring, The Burnham Institute
Location: Medical Teaching Facility (MTF) 175
Presentation
Abstract:
Issued US patents which cover pluripotent human stem cells have been a
source of concern, and often confusion, to those working with stem
cells.  Adding to these issues are unresolved questions as the validity
of the patents and the availability of licenses at reasonable cost.  We
will discuss both the scope and status of the basic patents and those
that have followed and review the present licensing policies of the
owners.
Discussion
Questions:
  1. How does patent law impact stem cell research?
  2. How does patent law interfere with stem cell research?
