Topic: Neutralizing Academic Misconduct: Revisiting the Jan Hendrik Schn Falsification Case from a Social Deviance Perspective
Presenter: Stuart Henry, Ph.D., Director, School of Public Affairs, San Diego State University
Location: SDSU Foundation: Sky Park
Discussion: In this presentation our presenter will examine the case of academic fraud applying neutralization theory to explore the ways in which academic researchers excuse, deny, or justify their behavior such that they are free from the moral bind of ethics. Dr. Henry also suggests parallels between corporate, elite deviance, and scientific deviance, particularly in its collective denial of responsibility and scapegoating of the individual scientist or executive or employee..
