Topic: What is Research Ethics?
Presenter: Michael Kalichman, Ph.D., Director, Research Ethics Program, UCSD
Location: SDSU Foundation: Sky Park
Discussion
and
Readings :
For some reason the definition of research ethics remains elusive, and it isn't clear how it differs from "responsible conduct of research" or "human subjects research ethics". Dr. Kalichman has listed several readings below, the first two are brief, easy articles to read. The remaining four are links to brief definitions or perspectives on "research ethics."

As a basis for discussion, we will look at two essays. The first was written by Caroline Whitbeck (now of Case Western Reserve University) in 1998:

The second was published in the Chronicle for Higher Education by Jeffrey Brainard, November 2006: http://www.cgsnet.org/portals/0/pdf/N_CHE_RCR_1106.pdf

In addition, it will be of some interest to look at selected definitions of Research Ethics available on the Web:
