Prison inmates have long been a particularly vulnerable group of potential research subjects, and their use in medical experiments has a troubling past.” As a direct result of various unethical experiments involving prisoners, Federal regulations have been developed that provide a general guide for the inclusion of prisoners in research. Despite the development of these regulations, however, there still remains a great deal of debate over the ethics of involving prisoners in research and egregious and unethical experiments with prisoners have still occurred. |
