Frequently Asked Questions Here are some frequently asked questions about Research Ethics Program courses: What courses are offered? The Research Ethics Program offers three courses. See Courses for a list. Who may take these courses? The courses are open to anyone in the UCSD community. If they are registered as a student, they can register for course credit, but this is not necessary. Which course should I take? All of the courses are designed to meet the NIH training requirements for responsible conduct of research; however, it is up to the PI (Principal Investigator) of the NIH award to determine if any given course is appropriate to what they have proposed or will be proposing. How can I find out more about the available courses? Syllabi for the most recently taught version of each of these courses can be found on the web pages for each course. When does the course start? The precise start dates and times will vary, but the courses are given during the following quarters:
Scheduling often may not be finalized until soon before the course starts. To be notified of time and location, it is important that you register with the course instructor. The Scientific Ethics (SOMI 226) course and the Ethics and Survival Skills (COGS 241 / NEUR 241 / SOMI 241 / PATH 241) course are listed for graduate student registration on StudentLink. The Scientific Integrity course is online only and is not now available for registration. Go to Course Registration How can I receive credit for completing the course? Anyone who completes the requirements of the course can, on request, receive a certificate of completion. What other courses are taught at UCSD?
