UCSD Department of Philosophy
The Department of Philosophy at the University of California San Diego offers a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in ethics taught by a highly distinguished faculty. For those interested in ethical theory, either in the introductory or advanced levels; the history of ethics (e.g., the thought of Plato, Aristotle, Kant, Mill); issues of justice in medicine and healthcare; or topics in contemporary moral philosophy (e.g., autonomy, personal identity, moral obligation), the Philosophy Department offers many opportunities.
Professors David Brink and Dick Arneson serve as Faculty Affiliates of the Research Ethics Program. Other members of the Philosophy faculty with interests in ethics include Professors Hardimon, Nelkin, Rickless and Doppelt.
Undergraduate Program
The department offers both a major and a minor in Philosophy. Those wishing to audit a particular course are generally welcome to do so with permission of the instructor. Representative offerings in ethics include:

- Ethical theory
- Philosophy of Law
- Greek Ethics
- Persons and Values
- Legal Philosophy (Jurisprudence and Constitutional Theory)

Graduate Program
The Department offers a Ph.D. in Philosophy and a Joint Degree Program with Cognitive Science. No students are admitted who aim to earn only as Master's Degree. Almost all students are supported by some form of financial aid. Recent graduate seminars have focused upon topics including recent work on theories of justice, Consequentialism and its critics, John Stuart Mill, Greek ethics, jurisprudence.
