UCSD Research Ethics Program:
Affiliated Faculty Policy
Revised: May 13, 2002
Invitations to join the Research Ethics Program as a Faculty Affiliate are based on the following criteria:
- Commitment to the mission and goals of the Research Ethics Program: To clarify and help resolve applied and theoretical ethical issues in medicine, the biological sciences and other areas of academic research.
- Professional training in philosophy, medicine, the biological sciences, law or other areas relevant to the mission and goals of the Research Ethics Program. In most cases, this would include a Ph.D., M.D. or other terminal degree (LL.D. for example) with a concentration in areas complementing that of current staff. Faculty Affiliates typically hold a faculty and/or clinical research position at UCSD or other local universities.
- Willingness and ability to participate in the Program by serving as faculty mentors, internship sponsors, and/or by supervising independent studies (199s) or offering courses or other forms of instruction in ethics.
- Acceptance of public affiliation with the Research Ethics Program.
