UCSD Research Ethics Program:
Affiliated Faculty Policy

Revised: May 13, 2002

Invitations to join the Research Ethics Program as a Faculty Affiliate are based on the following criteria:

  1. Commitment to the mission and goals of the Research Ethics Program: To clarify and help resolve applied and theoretical ethical issues in medicine, the biological sciences and other areas of academic research.

  2. Professional training in philosophy, medicine, the biological sciences, law or other areas relevant to the mission and goals of the Research Ethics Program. In most cases, this would include a Ph.D., M.D. or other terminal degree (LL.D. for example) with a concentration in areas complementing that of current staff. Faculty Affiliates typically hold a faculty and/or clinical research position at UCSD or other local universities.

  3. Willingness and ability to participate in the Program by serving as faculty mentors, internship sponsors, and/or by supervising independent studies (199s) or offering courses or other forms of instruction in ethics.

  4. Acceptance of public affiliation with the Research Ethics Program.
